Rain is a series of conceptual tracks produced for Webbed Hand Records. Each “Rain” is a CD-length ambient recording ideal for quiet listening while meditating, writing, or going to sleep. Typically the recordings in this series are minimalistic soundscapes, with motifs played out cyclically rather than progressively, in order to induce relaxed states.

This release is basically an hour and 15 minutes of rain sounds, birdsong and drones but the result is so much more than the sum of it’s parts. The sounds really paint a picture in my head. A grey picture with light grey clouds, drooping foliage, overflowing streams and nature how it should be seen, glistening with the waters of life.
The cracks of thunder make my spine tingle, the trickling water eases my fiery mind and the the drones intertwine together to sound quite musical. The sounds of the birds top it all off adding a very daytime feel. Without them I would see this music as dark/black but the birds brighten it all up to the bright grey of a dull, overcast, rainy day.
I have to admit that water is one of my favourite musical themes so there was always a high chance of me loving this. I wondered how I would feel about 75 minutes of it though and that is where this work surprises me. Although it’s pretty much the same throughout, the whole thing doesn’t get boring. I never find myself skipping ahead or turning it off half way through. The positioning of the thunder and the movement of the drones keep me hypnotised.
This is definitely recommended for ambient fans, especially those who like water themes. If you are expecting variety, melody and rhythm then best look elsewhere because this fits the title Ambient through and through.
