Andrew Latham’s mayfairgrin project is here approaching another facet of what he explored with ghostheory’s Shekinah (wh124).

The concept of this album, as explained by the artist:
“The record is mainly a very spiritual exercise. Like my journey from being spiritually comatose to resuscitation. …That played a large part of this record and the ghostheory record as well. I think they are cut from the same cloth… but one is suffering in lonely, cold darkness while seeking an intimidating divine reality; and the other meditating on resolve, forgiveness (of self and others), and resting in some sort of numinous certainty. Overall I’d say WWTPL is about healing… surviving the darkness and angst that was heard on ‘Shekinah’.”

Fans of ghostheory and Mayfairgrin will be pleased to hear this new drone-ambient work by A. Latham, which as the title suggests is an inspired meditation upon the concept of Shekinah, often understood as the feminine aspect of the divine.

“Hypnotic drones… warm sounds… veiled in a deeply shadowed darkness. Black and white cinema. A bit of noir, a bit of horror. A deep melody plays its dreary song while metallic sounds bounce and echo off the tight walls… bleak digitized atmospheres weave, ebb, and flow.

Ghostheory creates richly textured sonic atmospheres and unflinchingly intimate soundscapes, combined with vocal washes and a warming flood of molten, ethereal noise. “Musica Universalis” is two works of otherworldly Musique Concrete. The title track is based on the concept of Music of the Spheres and is composed primarily of sounds generated by astronomical objects.
The “maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes” of the final track echoes the Lovecraftian mythos of the blind idiot god Azathoth and his mad dance at the center of the
universe.
